life gets better when you do

Issue No. 10

The Opener

It is June. Which means you are about halfway through a year you had some kind of plan for.

Maybe you wrote a list in January. Maybe it was just a feeling. That this year was going to be the one where things actually shifted. Where you finally started on the thing you kept putting off. Where you started feeling more like yourself again.

And now it is June. Some of those things happened. Some did not. And the longer days have a way of making you think about the gap between the two more than you want to.

You are not behind. But let us talk about why it feels that way.

A Real Moment

Here is what the middle of the year actually looks like for most people. Not a dramatic failure. Not a big win. Just a quiet feeling that time kept moving and you were not always keeping up the way you meant to.

Some of the things you wanted to do this year still matter to you. Some of them do not matter as much as they did in January, and you know that but have not really said it out loud yet. And then there are the ones you have not touched, and every time they cross your mind you feel a little worse about it.

That feeling is not the truth about who you are. It is just guilt doing what guilt does.

Something You Can Use

June is not a verdict. It is just a good time to be honest with yourself about what you actually want the rest of this year to look like.

This week, sit down with two questions. What did I want at the start of this year? And what do I actually want right now? The answers might be the same. They might be completely different. Either way, you are allowed to update the plan. Changing what you are working toward is not the same as giving up on yourself.

The person who made those January goals was doing the best they could with what they had at the time. You have more information now. Use it.

A Moment for You

Put one hand on your chest. Take a slow breath in and let it out.

Think of one thing you did this year that was genuinely hard. Not something big or impressive. Just something that cost you something and you did it anyway. Sit with that for a second. You do not have to do anything with it. Just let yourself remember it before you move on to the next thing.

Something to Sit With

What if the year is not going wrong, it is just going differently than you planned?

Different is not the same as bad. There is still a lot of year left.

You do not need to start over. You do not need a new plan or a better month or a version of yourself that has it more together. You just need to be honest about where you are and take one step from there.

Life gets better when you do. And you have been doing more than you are giving yourself credit for.

See you next Tuesday.
